I’m a FCP editor that is sniffing around Premiere, like many after this whole Final Cut X stuff. One thing I noticed that I don’t like very much, coming from FCP, is that when I drag a clip’s position in the timeline, it is not very responsive at all. I’m not talking about playback, which is fine. I’m talking about literally the “feel” of dragging a clip either left or right or up or down. In Final Cut, you could drag a clip around as fast as you could whip the mouse around, but in Premiere dragging a clip around is really sluggish and almost “feels” like you’re dragging the clip through mud or something.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

I have noticed this too… However, I thought it was due to the fact I was working in an odd resolution. What resolution are you woking in?

I have the same problem, Mac Pro early 2008 with Nvidia Quadro 4000 24 GB RAM. It seems to get slower as the project gets larger, to the point where I really have to move the clip very slowly to accurately place it.

Overall, PPro for me is pretty laggy, like it takes maybe 1/2 second to start a clip, sometimes sound doesn’t play the first time, I stop and start and it plays fine. I attribute the lagginess to the fact that I am playing back avchd, h.264, xdcam footage and AE linked compositions at the same time, but it would be nice if I didn’t always feel like I was walking in molasses with this app.

I’ve experienced this problem on both PPro 5 and 5.5
