I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but it’s taking over an hour to just render a 1:45 project.

I’m not on the fastest machine in the world, but not the slowest either. I’m on a 2.66GHz, 4-core Imac with 8GB of RAM. In the settings, I chose to render multiple frames simultaneously at 2GB per process with leaving 2GB for other applications.

When rendering, it says RAM: 6% used of 3.0GB.

    Am I missing something?

there may be lot’s of things but
1- do not use multiple frames simultaneously
2- your project may contain lot’s of effects/layers/actions/presets etc.

those make it harder to calculate.. Also 1:45 is quite long, so it may take an hour or over an hour.. This is normal, if you have so much layers or effects etc..

I think I may have solved it. I have a background animation made up of a bunch of effects and actions applied to a fractal. I’m just going to save that layer out alone and bring it back in as video. I’m hoping that will speed everything up. Because my last minute and 45 second export was at 2 hours when i stopped the render.

The idea of pre-rendering that complex layer sounds like a good idea.

    Thanks, it definitely helped.

It was rendering in about 2 hours before. Now, it’s taking about 10 minutes.

I just want to pitch in that this also helped me immensely. I had a lumina matte of a 6000×4000 canvas that had a fractal applied as the lumina matte…. Since i changed the levels to only see the high points i thought it woulden’t cost too much rendering time.. boy was I wrong!
