  • Slow reaction time on timeline

Posted by Ido Shor on June 17, 2020 at 11:22 am

    Hey,

whenever I choose a clip on the timeline, either in order to trim it, or maybe change some values in position or a text layer,
the reaction time of resolve is extremely slow (1-3secs).
anybody else came across this problem?
    maybe even found a solution?

    I have a strong work-station so I don’t think it’s a hardware issue.
besides, scrubbing or playback as no issue what so over.
it’s only this lag in reaction when I try to move things around or do anything inside the timeline…

    thanks

    Dosho.

Post your computer specs. Also: Resolution/framerate of your footage/timeline? What’s the format of your footage? What is your Resolve version?

right, sorry. (didn’t think it matters, but you are right)

    Timeline:
    1080*1920 (vertical) 25fps
    footage:
4K,( but as I said, it happens also when I am just trying to move a text layer.)
a combination of .MOV from a Blackmagic camera or iPhone, DPX sequences (from comps) and PNG sequences.
    computer specs:
    Intel(R? Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz
    RAM: 64GB
    WIN10
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080Ti

    tnx.

You didn’t mention the Resolve version, but there were some issues with the timeline thumbnail generation causing some slow downs in some cases/formats. Try turning them off or changing it to heads and tails-only.

    the build is 16.2.2.011

I know about the tumbnail issue, I saw it in all the searches I did.
but my issue is not with the zoom in/zoom out or playback.

the problem I encounter is a delay in response when I try to move/trim etc. (as mentioned in the original post here)

    thanks anyways.

Have you tried to paste various files into another timeline and see if there is a particular file causing the timeline to have delay? With a combo of file types including image sequences plus possible frame rate differences, I would suspect there is a particular file that might be causing issues. Isolate one by one to see or it may be a combination of two file types that trigger the delay issues.

And it’s always worth checking that your preferences are correctly set to match your GPU. I would set for CUDA and not let auto options decide for example.

    Tnx, will try that.

    Cheers
