  • Slow RAM preview on new system

Just got a neww Boxx system -Dual quad cores, 4GB memory, XENA LHe video…problem is that RAM previews in AE are about 6 fps. Doesn’t matter what resolution the comp is , even a SD comp with nothing but 1 solid plays back this way. I don’t think it’s an AE problem cause I have never seen this happen before but thought I’d ask here in case someone else has.
Also, this is a Windows XP SP2 system.

nevermind..it seems the default output for the XENA preview is 1920×1080 so AE was trying to scale everything to this size for playback.

How does that 4GB RAM work out with an 8-core system btw? I heard that you really need 1-2GB per core to run AE/Nucleo optimally..I am wanting to upgrade soon, but a bit iffy about going 64bit right now, which would be the only option if I were to get 8-16GB RAM. So I wondered how 8-cores and 4GB would work until 64bit Windows is a bit more stable and then add more RAM later.

I just wondered how you were getting on?
