Final Cut 7 has changed a few things about how it handles slow motion.

In FCP6 if you applied a speed effect to a clip, copied it’s attributes, and pasted them onto other clips, it would retain the same in and out points for each clip, making each clip longer and rippling everything down the timeline.

In FCP7, if I apply, say a “50%” speed change to a single clip and have “Ripple Sequence” checked, the clip will get twice as long and keep the original in and out points, which is what I want. But when I try to apply this to multiple clips at once, it doesn’t let me check “Ripple Sequence”. So it will instead slow down all the clips, but leave them the same length, eliminating my out point.

Any idea how to get around this? All I’m trying to do is slow down a batch of clips by 50% without changing their in and out points.

There is no way to this in v7. You have to do each clip individually. Fix one thing, break something else.

    All the best,

    Hey guys,

I need help please. I’m using FCP7 for slow motion. I used FCP6 and the slow motion worked great, but with FCP 7, when I watch the final project on TV the slow motion looks really bad and not smooth at all. I’m only making the clip like 70% slow. As i said, I havent done anything different, I just upgraded to FCP7 and now it look bad.

All the boxs are ticked in FCP. Ripple sequences, Frame Blending, and scale Attributes. Are all ticked. Should they be?

    Can anyone please help me.

    Thank you,
    luke Middlemiss

This is so lame! I’m having the same problem and I use this feature a lot! Hopefully Apple knows about the problem and fixes it in the next update. I’m not holding my breathe on this one…
