  • Slow motion from 5D mkii 25fps?

Posted by Ken Korda on February 17, 2012 at 11:31 am

I shot some footage for a music video with a 5d mkii at 25fps (I’m using an English camera) and I want to slow it down to about 25% but on Final Cut Pro it’s pretty jerky and blurred.

Does anyone know if there’s anything I can do about it to make it smooth?

Thanks in advance for any help

Sorry…can’t. 25fps is a low frame rate. If you want smooth, you need to shoot 50fps (at 720p). The only solution that might be acceptable is to get Twixtor for After Effects.

That is a big slo down and 25 fps progressive will not look nice in FCP. Shane has mentioned twixtor but you could experiment with Motion and optical flow. It might look good or totally weird.

Also turn frame blending off as at that speed it might look worse than stepping.
