slow motion clip length
Posted by Mac Mcginnis on March 8, 2011 at 1:26 pmI know this should be simple.
But……..I pulled a 30 second clip into the timeline and inserted a velocity envelope to change to slow motion. I pulled down the velocity line but it kept my clip at 30 seconds, thus cutting off the end of the clip. How do I make it extend the timing of the clip automatically to compensate for the slower playback and keep the entire content of the clip?
Thanks in advance.

March 8, 2011 at 1:29 pmPlace your cursor at the end of the clip and slowly drag it out until you see the little dip (V shape) at the top of the timeline.
That indicates the end of the clip before it starts to repeat. -

March 8, 2011 at 2:07 pmThanks, I actually tried that last nite but I got the little square box icon that popped up where my cursor was at and all it would do is drag the entire clip in the timeline. Do you put the cursor at the bottom of the clip? I’m not at my home PC or I’d try it again now.

Unless I’m misunderstanding you, that’s what you’re supposed to do.
“Do you put the cursor at the bottom of the clip?”
Nope, it gets placed at the end of the clip.
By way of an explanation, let’s say you slowed the clip down to 50%.
That now makes your 30 sec. clip 1 min. long.
Place the cursor at the end of the clip and drag it out past the 1 min. mark.
At the 1 min. mark, look for the dip at the very top of the timeline.
It’s quite small so look very closely. -

March 8, 2011 at 2:34 pmI couldn’t get the clip to extend. It just moved the existing 30 second clip and wouldn’t show the remainder of the clip. I’ll try again later when I get home and let you know.
Thanks again. -

March 8, 2011 at 4:09 pmTo make it slow motion by fragging the edge, you have to hold cntl down first then click the edge and drag. you will see a zig zag line in the event showing the speed has been altered.
