  • Slow exports w/ Adobe Media Encoder – solutions?

Posted by Dave Fisher on February 15, 2010 at 8:55 pm

Hi, I am not at all pleased with the slow exporting times using Premiere Pro CS4’s Adobe Media Encoder.

I’m running Windows XP. The loading times are incredibly slow, and Task Manager says “Not Responding,” but will eventually load (after several hours) and then encode.

    I’m trying to convert a ten-minute SD F4V to Mpeg-2.

Are there any common fixes or patches or any ideas what I might be able to do to improve performance of that Encoder?

    Thanks.

    Dave,

You are going from one highly compressed format to another, so this is where you will get the worst render times. using “Maximum Quality”, noise reduction, or large images will also make things worse.

I do see improvements if I render the timeline first.

In the end, the only solution would be more processing and more RAM in a 64 bit system.

Several hours to load the encoder? That’s not right for sure…

What is your system specs? Are you using the most updated version of CS4?

Compared to some other NLE’s… Prem Pro is pretty clunky, less stable and slow for an NLE… but, something doesn’t seem right if it takes hours to load the encoder.
