Slow Editing – AVCHD in CS 5.5
Hi Folks,
I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t seem to solve the problem I’m having. I’m editing AVCHD footage from at Panasonic HCX-900m camcorder using premiere pro and the scrubbing/playback is terrible.
Computer specs (desktop)
16gb RAM
i7-3770
256gb ssd scratch disk, 1 terabyte 7200 RPM storage drive
AMD gpuI thought it might be a problem regarding lack of CUDA support on my GPU so I tried editing on my laptop (also an i7, but no SSD, has Geforce 660M GPU) I enabled the card and have confirmed that the mercury playback engine is hardware accelerated.
When I try to scrub, or even just playback footage in the editing window it goes ok for about 3 seconds then just gets choppy and basically unusable. Is this just a result of working with AVCHD? I thought my setup would easily have enough oomph to handle this footage without much difficulty, but I’m at the end of my rope. I’m considering converting everything to cineform before editing because it’s so difficult to work with. Any advice would be appreciated as I feel like I’m missing something obvious.
Thanks in advance!
Take care,
James
