October 13, 2017 at 8:37 pmThe “S” means SPATIAL, meaning the clip is a different size than the project. It hasn’t been converted…well, OK, it has…it’s been resized to fill the screen. But I’m telling you, this clip needs to be converted BEFORE you AMA link to it and use it. It’s compression is really taxing the system.

October 13, 2017 at 11:38 pmyes, but…P2 50mBit AVCintra ha 1440×1080 too, no symbol. if i recode the file in any whatever h264 the symbol is gone and it get nice playback…there is a solution for this, i m sure. maybe a codec interpretation mistake, or level problem…

October 14, 2017 at 12:32 amYes, 1440×1080 doesn’t match the project settings, which at 1920×1080. Try ProRes or DNxHD, not AVCIntra.

October 27, 2017 at 12:20 pmHi Shane again…nice song lyrics…
if you start a native Avid P2 project 1080-50i you can choose between 1440×1080(50mbit) or 1920×1080(100mBit) resolution and both is native P2 AVCintra codec operated by the system. there cant be a resize problem with h.264 1440×1080.
so why is the sytem showing the spatial symbol?…and. the compression of the clip is not very high! i had H.264 clips with much more compression running like Bugs Bunny in the timeline…best regards from cold Berlin

1440×1080 in AVCIntra P2 terms is ANAMORPHIC…it’s squeezed. It’s not square pixel, like 1920×1080 is. If you choose a 1440×1080 native setting, then it’ll still be 16×9, as Avid will ‘unsqueeze’ the footage it’s assuming is squeezed, to wide screen.
If you want square 1440×1080, you’ll need to make a custom setting.

October 27, 2017 at 5:18 pmi know all this. but the reuters footage is squeezed in the same way, so no problem for avid sys. there should not be a spatial sign when its a anamorphic project.
