  • Slipping out of sync double system audio in a multiclip

Posted by Roz Power on February 11, 2009 at 1:33 am

    Hi there-

Can I slip an audio track (only) to fix drifting sync in a multiclip against the picture? I can slip the pictures against each other to correct for error.

Or can I slip the audio internal to the master clip that the above multiclip was made from. It is a merged clip with tracks V1&A1-4 coming from the camera and trax 5&6 coming from a mix from a protools session (double system sound). The timecodes match but the new sync sound on 5&6 is out due to a drift, I can match by inpoints to regain sync but when I multiclip it – by timecode – it forces the slipped media back in place. I have to use timecode in the multiclip choices to correct for another issue.

    Any idea’s??

    Thanks-
    Roz

You can’t sync by timecode – audio doesn’t have have a QT timeode which is needed in this case. Audio does use tc64 timecode, which can be displayed within Final Cut, but as said it can’t be used for things like sync by timecode.
You’ve to link the clips, create a subclip and make the multiclip using in points.

    Hi Andreas-

Thanks for the advice – unfortunately I have to sync the multiclips by timecode to deal with another issue. The 2 camera’s are going on and off – I am using angles 3&4 in order to get more content locked together – alot of the content starts midway through a clip. If I have to sync the clips by timecode – I loose this workaround.

The audio files that I am trying to slip are wav files.

Along the same lines – I am also noticing if I drop the merged clips in the timeline- unlink – slip sync back- relink – then drag to my Browser – the slip I have made is gone and all timecodes have lined up again??

    Thanks-
    Roz

    Hi Roz,

I know a real lot of people having the same problem – this includes me.

So what I did – sorry some self advertisement – I wrote a program named BWF2XML. This app will put your BWAV files into a QT wrapper with a QT timecode track matching the audio timestamp. (no data changed). Working this way Final Cut can sync by timecode. Additionally you’ll never have playback speed issues.
This app works like the “Log & Transfer” but it’s for audio. Have a look at my website and try it, there is a free demo.

    Regards
    Andreas

    P.S.
