Hi all, figuring some of you using the new camera might also be using the new BT-LH1700W Panasonic monitor I saw at NAB this year. Any reports on it , likes or dislikes ? I am searching for a new monitor for the studio, was looking at this. Your opinions welcome. Right now I am only involved in SD, figure this would ready me for the future.

    Thank you all
    Tom

    Love it.

    Simple as that.

    Both for field and studio…

It rocks for HD material, however I personally don’t like it for SD. I went back to my Sony PVM-9L3 for shooting SD. It nice and compact, easy to take on a plane though, I like having the waveform for reference, only wish it came it the IRE numbers! The Portabrace case that I have for it is pretty good, except for the hood, that needs a bit of improvement, too flimsy.

    Just my .02 cents worth

    Cheers,

It’s a great monitor, I’d say the best you can get in LCD (disclaimer: I’ve not yet compared the new JVCs side-by-side).

BUT: As long as we still have to deliver SD as well, I’d always have a traditional tube in SD next to it in my studio to check interlace issues

We’ve just wrapped 6 weeks of shooting for a feature using the HVX-200 & the BT-LH1700W. They’re a great combination together. Our only problem was that the PA we assigned to set up the monitor couldn’t plug in a video cable properly. And the PortaBrace case for the monitor is pretty good, despite the hood design being a little stupid.
