  • slight white flickering between some clips when film is shown with projector

I did a film using FCPX 10.1.3 on an iMac using the latest Mavericks update. The film is 1920×1080 24 fps progressive.

When I view the outputted .mov file on my computer, whether viewing the H264 version or the ProRes422 version, the film looks fine. The same is true if I play the film from my timeline in FCPX.

When I show the film hooked up from my laptop computer (Macbook Air) to the BENQ SH915 projector using either the H264 or the ProRes422 version, or if I use a BluRay disc, however, there are certain scenes where when going from clip to clip I get a slight white “flicker” between the clips (there are no transitions, just hard cuts). Maybe others wouldn’t notice, but I do, and not all clips do this…

Is this flicker caused by the projector (is there a setting I should be looking for) or is it caused by something on the FCPX timeline that should be done to the clips?

Would re-rendering the entire project help fix this (and how would I do this)?

Any other suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

Sounds like your projector can’t keep up with the change in contrast. Are all your values broadcast safe or are your whites at a hearty 120ire? I’ve seen some monitors do wacky things when cutting bright stuff.

Actually, what it turned out to be was the econo mode setting on the projector. When I switched to the normal mode for projection it looked fine.
