Sliding Photos
I’ve seen lots of tutorials and suggestions about sliding still images around, but i’ve never seen anything on how to save a preset to do this? I’d love to make like 10 of these as templates since I far too frequently edit video game developer interviews where we only have still images and no gameplay video. Any ideas?
I’m hoping for a folder with nice catchy names like:
Down and right in
Down and left in
up and right in
up and left in
left zoom in
right zoom outI’d love to be able to copy the attributes from these then save them.

Create the motion effect and from the Effects menu select Make Favorite Motion. Save it in Favorites, rename it, and back it up with your preferred method.

Mind you this will only work if all your stills have exactly the same dimensions. If one is 600×400 and the next one is 2000×1500, the move will not match up at all.
But that is a cool tip Tom.

Can you use an “inset wipe” transition? They have all the options you want. You can then save each one as a favorite and drag and drop when you need it.
Might not be exactly when you want though.

Have you tried the Slide or Push transition? Or like Tom mentioned above, create your keyframes and save them as favorites.
SupaWipe is also an incredible plugin.

If you are going to be doing a lot of photo slideshows, you should look into a program called Fhotomagico. Its easier and faster then doing them in FCP. You can then export your slide show to any video format you want.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

wow thanks for all the tips, everyone, i’ll take a look and see what works best for my needs, starting with the motion favorites. the majority of our screens are now in HD formats from 360 and PS3 so they will be similar size. obviously though flexibility there might be useful, i’ll also look at the plugins.
we don’t do many “slideshows” the use of the images is as b roll to hide cuts.
