Size/Speed of dedicated scratch disk
For doing 10 minute HDV projects, is 160GB enough space for a dedicated scratch disk for both PP and AE? This is also going to be a 10k drive. I thought since I work on 5-10 min projects mostly that I could get away with 160GB for a dedicated SATA scratch disk.. what do you think?

160 GB @ 10K do not exist.

As I told you before on another forum, the sweet spot in price/performance is with the 320/400 GB @ 7200 RPM SATA’s. No benefit from a Raptor for scratch disks. For OS, yes.

I edit HDV. So I chose a 10K rpm 150GB system drive, two 7200 rpm 250 GB SATA drives in a RAID0 configuration with a 250GB 7200 rpm SATA drive for a scratch disk.
I saw no reason to go to 10K for a scratch disk.

Thanks for writing the system HD config you use. So do you find that the 250GB is plenty of space for you? And since I do mostly 5-10 min projects.. you think 150GB is plenty for me? Thanks!

I would say that 150GB is probably fine for a scratch disk. But that assumes you do what I do and delete the preview files regularly and then defrag.
You really can’t have too much space for your video drive though.
