Since Express is now almost FCP as we know it will there be any new update to FCP studio? I can think of several features that would be amazing to have.

Not really. Too many differences to even begin discussing here.

I agree, FCP is a totally different beast to FCE. There is a whole ton more to it than the basic fact that FCE is based around DV/HDV only. There are pages upon pages of differences. It’s only because you never need/or use them that you don’t know they are there. Just ask any Pro Editor who uses it for a living to try FCE for a week and see what he/she says 😉

For the price FCE is an excellent editing solution for those formats. It has all the editing functionality that FCP has, all the overlay functions and all the trim functions. Obviously there’s a lot more that FCS can do, but it is four times the cost. If you want to edit DV or HDV you’ve be perfectly capable of editing your material with great precision and flexibility in FCE.

    All the best,

[Tom Wolsky] “If you want to edit DV or HDV you’ve be perfectly capable of editing your material with great precision and flexibility in FCE.”

Exactly. Very limiting software where you can edit in the DV world only. I see it as a great introductory software for colleges and corporate type video production where you don’t have broadcast or need to interface with outside post production companies. On it’s own, it’s just fine, but it’s not FCP.

Even at 4 times the cost, $1,299 is ridiculously cheap for what you get and what the software can do. One job more than pays for the entire suite so I really don’t think the price of FCS is really an issue.
