Hi guys, I’m really new to this after effects stuff but I needa use it for an assignment, so here are the two things which are bugging me:

    1. How dyou add a solid colour over a video but only have it visible at different times?
    2. How dyou put different videos together to form one video?

Basically, what I wanna get is a video that starts off in normal video, goes to the solid with text on it for a few secs, go back to video, so on so forth. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks loads in advance!

What you’re describing is doable in After Effects, but is really a job for an NLE (non-linear editor), such as Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, or Avid. After Effects excels in motion graphics, effects, and compositing, but you’ll pull your hair out trying to use it to edit.

You might make the graphics in AE, render them out, and use an NLE to cut all the pieces together.

Thanks for the links and suggestions guys! I cut the videos out in AE, put them together in iMovie and add the effects in AE again lol. Thanks again for the help!
