Simple question – whats the answer please – HDV to normal screen
Hi all
I am struggling with trying to get HDV footage (FX1 set to 4:3) to render to normal screen height and width (no letterbox as with widescreen) – iow, the video must fill the screen (PAL) – as requested by client.
I have my project set up as 720 x 576, 1.0926 (PAL DV), PAL DV (720×576, 25.000 fps).
How do I render this project to get what I am after or which aspect setting do I need to change to achieve this.
Please forgive my ignorance as I am new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated

Go into the event pan and crop set the following settings
Position
Width 978
Height 1080
x center 720
y center 540Angle
angle o
x center 720
y center 484Key frame
Smooth 0Source
maintain aspect ration no
Stretch to fil frame yes. -

These settings worked – however, why does the output now appear “squashed” horizontally

I’m not sure? It rendered Ok for me. Are you sure you set the maintain aspect ratio to: no.
Also what are you rendering to.If you are rendering it to Windows media or Mpeg 2 for DVD, you might want to check that you have the right shape pixel (IE square) or Aspect ratio (IE 4:3 or 2.21). You find these on the video tab in the render as s custom template.

So you shot HDV as 4:3? Or you want to pan/scan the HDV to 4:3?
If you want to pan/scan to 4:3 do this:
Apply Pan/Crop.
Under Source:
set “Maintain Aspect ration” to “No”
set “Stretch to fill frame” to “Yes”Now — right click with the mouse directly over the video image inside pan/crop and choose “Match Output Aspect”. This will simply crop the left and right sides of the HDV footage to perfectly fit your project size.

I feel like a right real twit
The answer was staring me in the face and I didn’t see it. Besides selecting to Not maintain the aspect ratio, there is also a selection for 4:3 in the pulldown which correctly displays the frames.
