simple colour correction
Hi,
Excuse the simple question but I’ve a deadline fast approaching and thought I could simply use Premiere as requested even though I dont really use it…
Anyway, I’m looking to make some simple corrections to the black and white levels in an image (i dont have color finesse btw, but do have colorista 2)
In FCP i would use the 3 way colour correctors black/mids/white sliders to adjust the black white and mid levels and would be able to see what I’m doing by looking in the waveform monitor which would show me black and white levels between 0-100…
In CS5 on a mac, I’ve tried the shadow/highlight effect, the levels effect and the procamp effect… and although they are making adjustments which look ok they dont seem as intuitive as the simple black and white level sliders in fcp…and I dont feel as though I’m in control of what I’m doing…ie I’ve made one image better but would just like to lower the white levels on their own and cant seem to find a control which will do this…I’m sure there must be one…
Also, I’m not really sure what affect I’m having on the image as none of the waveforms seem to show black and white levels from 0-100…Is the Y/C a variant of this?…If so, what are the broadcast standards please…and how do I turn off the Setup (7.5 IRE) switch…I’ve read that if you untick this it will display the digital video information which I am guessing is 0-100…in pictures on the web this tick box is at the top middle of the display but i dont have it…
Any advice for best workflow would be mnuch appreciated…I also have after effects and photoshop if they’re better options for this…
Thanks for the help
Mike
