Simple Audio Question
Posted by Naiche Lujan on August 21, 2007 at 6:38 pmI an new to Vegas and so I did something but now I need to know how to repeat it.
In a previous editing job I somehow got into an audio editing mode where I could create points on the audio track and adjust the volume by dragging the points up and down.
Now I can’t get back into that mode where I can create points and the only option I have is to edit in an external audio editing program. But since this is just a simple volume adjustment, it would be much easier to just edit in place.
Appreciate the help

August 21, 2007 at 6:58 pmShift V will give you an audio envelope or you can right click on the audio track header and find it there in a menu.

August 21, 2007 at 7:01 pmInsert a volume envelope (click the audio event to highlight it and then click the V key).
Add points and drag as desired 🙂 -

August 21, 2007 at 7:03 pmActually, just plain “V” will give a volume envelope.
Once the envelope is there, hold down the shift key and drag the mouse. This will let you “draw” points on that line.
Alternately, turn on the automation tools on the track header – click the button that looks like a gear and choose “Show Automation Controls”. Now changing the track volume will change the volume envelope.

August 21, 2007 at 7:47 pmThank you all,
You guys are the best.
I knew it was simple. I don’t really know how I initially found it, but I’m glad I did. Envelopes rock! (Now that I know that’s what they’re called). Is there a way to get the pointer to set points on a single-click, or is it always a double-click?

It’s a double-click or a right-click and then select the menu option to add a new point.
You *could* make it a single click but that would require using a script and you’d have to move the cursor to that location.

August 22, 2007 at 2:26 amJust one more tip. After following the steps given by Edward,
“Alternately, turn on the automation tools on the track header – click the button that looks like a gear and choose “Show Automation Controls”. Now changing the track volume will change the volume envelope.”
At this point you can hit play and now when you adjust the tracks volume control it will write the volume envelopes in real time. You can hear the changes as you go and of course it remembers the adjustments on later playbacks.
Full automation is cool.
Regards, Rick.
