FCS 2 brings a lot of great stuff to the table… Color is big… multi-format, frame-rate timelines are great…. The new codec is exciting… Surround mixing…. there’s a lot to be happy about… But… I’m very, very disappointed that Motion is getting an “update” and not a “rewrite”. The new things in Motion for this update (lights and cameras, vector paint, etc.) are things that have been in After Effects and Combustion for years. I was really hoping there would be some sort of rework of a Shake-based product into the suite. So, in terms of integrating complex graphic builds into our Final Cut, we are stuck with Auto Duck to After Effects. Sorry, but Motion just doesn’t cut it for everything… down ‘n dirty, yes… but not for anything complicated. Even something as simple as easing keyframes in and out doesn

Well, we don’t know what Apple is doing with Shake code. Obviously they’ve taken a small bit (smoothcam) and integrated it into FCP. When they made the announcement that the current version of Shake was at its end, my sources said it would be 2008 at the earliest before we would see what they were going to do with it. Sigh.
