Hi, I am new to Avid and am trying to shuttle through my footage to quickly make my in and out points. Everytime I fast forward or rewind using JKL on my keyboard while in the capture tool, it then makes my footage play slowly. I stop shuttling and then when I play the master tape footage again it is not playing in real time, but playing at a slower jittery speed. Is there a preference I have to change, bc without being able to shuttle through my footage it will be pointless to use Avid to capture. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don’t have a definitive answer for you, but I have the same problem on my Xpress Pro, and I don’t use the JKL keys, I use the buttons on the capture tool. Seeing your post made me wonder why I have never posted about it myself. I think it’s because I capture from a Sony DSR-11 deck, which is their bottom of the line deck and is not really built for shuttling. Maybe it’s a limitation of firewire. What are you using to capture from?

I am using an old Sony deck (GV-D300) as well but I know that it is not due to that because I use that same deck with FCP and shuttling is fine. This shuttle problem even occurs when I try using my camera as a deck. I am using firewire which is also what I use for FCP. I just don’t understand why this same meathod which works so perfectly for me on FCP is so bad on avid.
