September 20, 2012 at 5:35 pmThanks for the response James but my concern about Mountain Lion is I also use FCP 7 with Aja LHI to capture and export to tape and I am not sure if it works.

September 20, 2012 at 10:11 pmI’m not an AJA user but I’m sure it won’t take more than a look at their support pages to find the latest version of the OS that their drivers are certified for.
As to the update – I usually recommend that you don’t update the system past whatever was available when your NLE was last updated. For FCP7 that was a long time ago and I think the time will rapidly approach where you’ll need to make a choice between Mountain Lion to run FCPX efficiently and Snow Leopard for FCP7.
Right now I’d recommend running Lion for FCPX until a post Mountain Lion version is released. Having said that I read that FCP7 runs fine on Mountain Lion (can’t verify as my copy of FCP7 has it’s own Snow Leopard drive) and people are suggesting that FCPX will run better on ML as well.
My suggestion would be to make a bootable clone of your existing drive so you have something to fall back to, spend the $29 and see how it goes. Let us know if there are any issues.
