Should I buy Nikon D7000 or Nikon D5100?
I’m looking at purchasing the Nikon D5100 or the D7000 for video work. For cost reasons, it would be nice if I could stick with the D5100, but I want to make sure it will do what I need it to do.
What are the main differences between these 2 as far as video work is concerned? Will most body-rigs work with the D5100 body type?
Also, I noticed neither of these cameras use Compact Flash. Is the SDXC format ready for video? Do the twin ports on the D7000 mitigate issues with low speeds?

I don’t have any experience with either model, so I can only go by the specs listed on what could be relevant to video. The 5100 can record at 24fps and 30fps at 1080p, while the D7000 can 24fps at 1080p but 30fps at 720p. The D7000 has audio monitoring (ability to adjust mic sensitivity) while the d1500 does not. The D7000’s shutter speed is twice as fast (1/8000 sec.) than the 5100. The D700 has two SD slots while the 5100 has one. The 5100 has a swivel screen, while the d7000 is fixed. Also I’ve heard complaints on the difficulty of setting up exposure while in video mode for the 5100. So it really comes down to what you find most important.
But if your looking at cameras that do video in that price range you may want to consider Panasonic’s GH2. It has several advantages over other mirror-less and SLR cameras on the market like: little to no moire, reduced rolling shutter, and unlimited record time. If those things aren’t factors for you, then by all means pick a nikon.

i Own a D7000, Fantastic camera …..
I bought it to mess about with the DSLR fad …… love it to death, However …… the only thing that pisses me off is … If you want to change aperture setting … you can’t do it in live view mode which sucks.You first have to come out of live view go to F(whatever) then go back into live view to see if that works for you …. Annoying !!!!!!!! But it images Sweet…..
But What we all have to remember is that these cameras are really Still Cameras that happen to do video really well …… nothing more. Even saying that … i used the D7000 on a RED shoot for an ad i did earlier this year .. i dare u to find the DSLR shotsBut if i had to get one of these little animals for video it would be the GH2. love its aesthetic and functionality …

Ok, I think I’m going to go for the GH2. Thanks for all the recommendations!! Can anyone speak to SDHC vs. SDXC? I know SDXC is higher capacity, but does it provide faster speeds as well?

works like a charm, has never dropped frames and we are dealing with data rates that are low.
Get yourself some good glass tho, thats where u gotta spend your money. Nikon Glass and the Nikon F to MFT adapter. After that its what u put in front the lens is what matters…..
