should export from fcp dry look same as captured? 24p is not so good
i shot footage on the sony hvr v1u hdv 24p 1080.
it was transfered from the dv tape via a deck to my external drive by someone else.
the capture scratch are all quicktime files on my external drive which bring into final cut pro (6.0) in the 24fps timeline. there are a couple pulldown options to choose from in the user prefs of fcp. not sure which to use.the pulldown biz confused me. 2:3:2:3 vs 2:3:3:2.
did a test export using general quicktime setting of a clip one from the 24 timeline and the same clip dry from a 30 fps time line i had originally worked with the footage in before realizing i was having issues with the frames (3 progressive followed by 2 interlaced).I compared a non-interlaced still from the 30fpc timeline against same frame of the 24fps timeline and found the 24 is showing artifacting and jaggies (though it does move smooth as it should compared to the stuttering i was having when i ignorantly had it mistakingly in a 30fps project.)
i pulled up the original qt file from my scratch disc of the clip to compare. The 30fps timeline frame looks identical though to the source material – more clarity and no jaggies.
any ideas on this one? i want to get this footage optimum before doing the whole thing over you can imagine. so i want to make sure my export out of fcp before compressing to standard def DVD looks good. so, after assembling clips in final cut pro with no filters, effects or time changes shouldnt the export look same as the original? i know its going to get crunched at the mpeg2 phase for dvd but thats later.
thanks for any help.
