I’m working on an association promotional video (<1 minute length). The association has members across Canada and we are engaging them to supply us with the materials from which the video will be edited.

I’m wondering if there’s any thoughts on whether such a video is best to be all video/image versus a mix of the two.

Example: for the end-user, would viewing still images interspersed with motion video be a jarring visual experience compared to a slideshow of images?

Its done all the time, though not always well. A couple of common tricks are to get images large enough to keyframe some movement (the ken burns effect), or use several of them in a mosaic bringing them on/off at staggered intervals to add some motion.

Besides the Ken Burns effect, consider overlapping some audio from the previous video (L and J cuts) when you move to stills if it makes sense. You may also want to consider an overall voice over narration to tie everything together.
