    camera: panasonic dvx-100
cpu: G5 with final cut 5

my question is around the whole “pull down” process and the settings i should be using for final cut…should i be using the ntsc advance pulldown capture settings with a 23.98 sequence setting or 29.97 capture/sequence setting….doesn’t the footage play at 29.97 fps anyway when it’s broadcast?

I want to retain the film look for the final output…I’m just wondering how best to do that

    Thanks in advance

What you didn’t tell us is what 24 you used on the DVX… did you use 24P or 24pA? If you used the 24pA then you should probably remove the pulldown on capture — edit in 24 — then add BACK the 2.3 pulldown when exporting back to tape for broadcast.

IF you shot in 24P then it has the 2.3 pulldown already on it and you should just edit in 29.97.

The advanced pulldown looks a little jumpy on TVs.

    Good luck,

I actually didn’t shoot it myself but I put a call to the dp and he said he used the regular 24p….so It’s all good.
    Thanks again for the reply!
