shooting a dark scene
Hi,
I’m filming a short ‘teaser’ for (some sort of) a theater piece that will be presented later this year.
In it, you see a man sitting on a chair in a gloomy, dark room, with moonlight coming through the window. Then the camera zooms in on his eye, and things start happening in there. That part I can manage, I’m ok with after effects.
So actually my questions are about the scene with the man on the chair: how can I best achieve a ‘nightly’, creepy look, without underexposing? Putting it another way: what’s the best way setting up such a scene?

Have you tried color grading your video? Try adjusting levels – blacks and midtones, adjust using Color Balance to get the right color you’re looking for, and adjust saturation and lightness using the Hue/Saturation control. Or, simply try adding a new solid above your clip – and choose a dark steel greyish blue color (R:49, G:56, B:69), and set the mode to Multiply. There are lots of ways to do this. It all depends on the exact “look” you’re after.

I’d suggest setting up a room where you can control all the lighting (ie all studio lights) Use a blue gel, mess with the iris, then do some cc in AE.
It’s pretty simple. You’ll get it as soon as you set up the scene and start playnig with it.
