The company which I am working for doing a project for a forthcoming major sporting event.

I would like to get images of the finished project for use in a marketing video.

    1. Do I need the client’s permission to use the footage?
    2. The venue is a free event…open to the public….would the public have an expectation of privacy and thus require releases?

I am talking about shooting the completed project…with public in attendence if that is proper.

    1. Yes. Always ask in advance.

    2. Maybe. All the details specific to the situation are not clear, and all the people who could have an issue are not defined.

    Thanks for your answer, Mark…

    Some more specifics regarding #2:

There are several projects for a handful of clients. The venues are open to the public for free…one assumes that because of this there should be no “expectation of privacy.”

We could get a few “extras” to appear as the public and get them to sign off on releases…that’s more than a bit of hassle because there are several venues.
