Shooting 60fps 720 (conforming into slow motion) and making 1080 into 720 in FCP 7?
Hi I’m sure this has been asked before, so bear with me as it’s sort of a unique thing…
I’m embarking on attempting a full length slow motion film which may just be impossible if not extremely tedious. I do want to include some regular 24fps visuals in “real time” for on camera interviews.
My camera, the EOS 1D Mark IV only has 60fps in 720 (this is the only rate that will shoot in slow motion, and I used the Cinema Tools program to do so)
My 24fps settings only shoot in 1080, NOT 720.
So therefore, what should my FCP 7 settings be if I want to have the 1080 footage be changed automatically to 720 when it goes into my bin and on my timeline? (is this even possible?)

You can edit the whole thing in 720 and then make it 1080 when you are done. Also, note that the footage will play in real time unless converted before you bring it into FCP.

You need to do that on two steps:
– Use CinemaTools to Conform the 720p60 stuff to 720p24. The clips will play at 24fps.
– The use Compressor to upscale the 720 to 1080. Set the “Control Frame ON” and export as Prores.
