  • shoot16x9 but edit to 4×3?

Posted by Eric Hammond on May 8, 2008 at 5:50 pm

I need some help with the best way to capture 16×9 footage and edit for a 4×3 broadcast. What should my settings be? Currently my sequence is set for 4×3 and I am distorting the footage to -33. Is this the correct way or is there a better solution? Any help would be greatly appreceiated!

it depends on how it will be broadcast and what kind of master you want to make

are you working with HD or anamorphic SD sources?
if HD do you want an HD master?
if SD do you want a 16:9 anamorphic master?
will it be broadcast letterboxed or pan and scan / center cut ?
if the latter will it be 14:9 center cut, or 4:3 center cut?

It is all SD right now shot 16×9. The tv stations here do not broadcast 16×9 yet. So I have been treating all the footage as 4×3 and just squeezing the image down. Is this the best way?
    Thanks for your help.
