Shift in Levels in render. HELP!
Hi, I need some help with a render issue.
I’m working in a 1920×1080 Sq. pixel HD project. When I render, at lossless quality using the AE Animation codec, there is a shift in the darkness on the render. The shift is not there in the project. I’ve keyed out a green screen using keylight 1.2, adjusted the levels, and tweaked the saturation. None of these effects have any keyframes.
I first thought that it was a length issue, so I changed the render time from 2 seconds to 1 second; the problem was still there. I then changed the time from 1 second to 10 frames, the problem remains. The computer I’m using is by no means slow as it is an Intel Mac.
Any suggestions? I could really use the help as the deadline is approaching.

Are you saying that the result of your render is darker across the entire render, or that it slowly darkens as the render progresses? If it slowly darkens then you may actually have animated properties affecting things that you weren’t aware of. You could try selecting all of your layers in the composition and pressing ‘u’ to reveal animated properties. If this isn’t the problem then I’d try rendering to a different codec.
If the entire render is darker then it is probably related to CS3’s color management or some sort of gamma issue. Are you using a Color Profile in your project?

The shift in darkness comes heavy and quick. One frame its normal and the next it changes dramatically. I tried messing around with different codecs and that seemed to help. I originally used the Animation codec then tried Apple ProRes 422 HQ and that seemed to work. I’m still at a loss as to why it would do it with the Animation codec though.
