I’ve been using the shatter effect and have it animating and breaking apart using a custom map. I have it animating the way I want, but the edges of the pieces are kind of muddy. I tried using the custom map as a vector pattern as well as a Tiff… no success
Heres an image of the map and the shattered piece…

the shapes i want shattered are not overlapping or touching in the b/w map…

is there a setting im just not seeing???!

Hm. I don’t Shatter much, but Googling “shatter map” and “clean” led to this link, among others:

Creating a custom shatter map is really difficult and the information on how to do it isn’t as readily available as it once was. It depends on more than hard edges and if any pixel is seen by Shatter as crossing a line, the edge will be muddy, as you say. It is largely a color threshold process, not a vector process. You might check Total Training’s site to see if Brian Maffit, the guy who invented Shatter, still has anything up that might help. Hmm, just dropped by, doesn’t look like they have anything online that’s free.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
