Shatter Crash Bug in AECS5
I have thoroughly troubleshot a crash with the Shatter effect in CS5 (not sure whether it occurs in 5.5, though I think it’s likely). I will write a formal crash report to Adobe later, but I’m interested to see if any of you can reproduce it on other systems.
It seems that the Shatter effect does not like to render images in which the composited layer is shorter than the original layer height. For instance, if you insert a “transform” plugin before the shatter, then scale the transform plugin below 100%, it crashes. Keep in mind, this will not occur with the default layer scale, since all of the default transform processes are performed AFTER all of the plugins.
It appears to be a glitch in the “Texture” system which re-paints on the layer’s pixels after processing the shatter geometry. So, if all the texture maps are set to “color” instead of “Layer”, there isn’t an issue since the plugin isn’t even drawing information from the layer.
Can anyone confirm this problem on a different system? Here are the steps to reproduce it:
Create a comp (any size)
Create a solid (any size)
Add Effect > Transform
Add Effect > Shatter
Change “View” setting to “Rendered”
Then in the Transform Effect, for “Scale”, enter a value below 100This should cause a crash.
Let me know what you find.
