Can anyone tell me a method to make the light (or colors) from one layer affect another layer, without making any of the layers into 3d layers?

I have a video that goes through colors and I want those colors to look like lights bouncing off of another layer. Please advise. Thanks. 😀

Blend modes might get you there.

If you’re working at 32bpc you could use multiply with an exposure effect on the ‘color’ footage to control intensity. Otherwise try soft light or overlay if you’re working in a lower bit depth. If there are details in the color footage you don’t want to transfer then use a blur as well.

I’m with Darby in that it sounds like some blend modes will get you what you want. Although, I’m not quite sure from your description if that’s what you want.
