Anyone have luck sharpening what seems to be footage from a camera with a back-focus problem? Almost every tape is slightly out of focus. It was a 2 camera shoot and one camera’s tapes are fine. I’ve played with the built-in unsharp tools, and I would try FXFactory, but this system is FCP5.xx on OSX10.3.9.
    TIA,

    What format is your footage?

I have had a bit of luck with HD footage in FCP and some slightly soft focus with the default FCP sharpen filter.

I think Nattress has a sharpen filter in one of his filter sets http://www.nattress.com

I Believe Magic Bullet has a sharpen filter. http://www.redgiantsoftware.com

I am sure Google will set you free.

With fcp unsharp mask I’ve gotten useable results by adding a duplicate layer above with about 50% transperency which hides the grain and contrast of the lower unsharp mask layer. You may have to add a slight bit of grain and contrast to the good camera to match it up on long form 2 camera project.

Thanks guys, it’s HDV 720P 30. I forgot to mention I also have nattress’ filters. I haven’t had a lot of luck with any of the sharpen filters, but I’ll definitely try the duplicate/50% transparency approach.
