Shadows in a Composite
I am compositing a shot where a guy runs across a traffic-stricken street by using two static shots: A) the guy runs across an empty street and B) actual traffic. I’ve got all the masking done, and the guy is in the action pretty well.
My problem is he stops in front of a large bus that casts a shadow on the ground. The guy does not receive this shadow cast by the bus. How can I make it look as though the bus is truly passing in front of the guy and the bus’s shadow is also changing his light?

1. Create a black solid on the layer above the man
2. Duplicate the layer with the man and move it above the black solid layer
3. Turn on track matting for the black solid layer and select alpha matte (this will use the alpha info from the second layer of the man which is above it)
4. Adjust the opacity of the black solid layer to make it seem more like a shadow.
5. Add another mask to the black solid layer if you need the shadow to move across the man. Use keyframes to change the shape of the mask over time.
