setting length of Gen Media preset

When you change the time of the generated media you must save it as the new preset.
So if you change it to 3 secs. name it 3 sec preset or something like that and click on the disc icon. You should be all set from there. it’ll show up in the generated media library from now on.

OK, this is not working. Here is what I have been doing:
Place cursor on timeline on track where I want to insert Video Event FX Text;
Set font, size, and time, which I want to be 3 seconds;
Name preset “BARN CATEGORY”;
Click SAVE icon to the right of Preset bar.

BARN CATEGORY is now included in both the Preset dropdown menu and in the Media Generators selection window.

When I call up the BARN CATEGORY preset from the Text Generator drop down menu the length is 5 seconds and that’s what it appears as on the timeline. When I drag the same BARN CATEGORY preset from the Media Generators window it appears on the timeline as 10 seconds! I’m befuddled.

1. Options – Preferences – Editing tab – change the “new still image length” to be the length you want the generated media.

2. Create a selection area of the desired length on the timeline, right-click it, and tell it to insert a generated media.

3. Use a script to create a generated media of the desired length.

Thanks, Edward, those will work. Why do you suppose it is that the length can’t be set in the Preset?

The preset only contains the settings for one KEYFRAME – nothing related to “length”.

How hard could it be to drag the right edge on the timeline event back 2 seconds to fit? A pop up dipslay shows the amount of frames you have moved it. Snapping will make it fit a hole.

Exactly so, Gary, but I anticipate around 300 of these text event inserts on this project and having them the right length at time of insertion will grease the workflow.

I see. I usually make text events long enough for a typical speed of reading of what is there. Are all 300 text events using the same amount of text? 300? Maybe a book would be better than a video. JK

Actually, this video is based on a book I have written. The text events are simply 2 to 4 word introductions to scene changes, thus the short duration.

sorry. I did not understand the extent of your project. Set the Pref-Editing-Still Length to 3 as said before. Save a preset to recall your default font, size, etc.
