You have to have the on-screen access for adjusting parameters set to “Partial” instead of “Full” access. Then you’ll be able to change your W/B using the switch.

Peter, are you speaking of the EX?
If so, check to see if that position is set to ATW in the menu.

I was not able to process white balance with the camera zoomed in. I was able to adjust the white balance by pulling the zoom all the way back and holding a white piece of paper a couple feet in front of the camera.

I wish I was good at one thing rather than average at many, but oh well.

Nick, stop wishing and make it happen.

Dedication pays off more than anything else. Before long, it will all be natural. In all fairness, the EX-1 menu system is a disaster and has no logic in how it’s laid out. Memorize every switch so you can operate that camera in the dark, without looking for things. Be the master. Dwell on your strengths.

Read that book, word for word, without distractions, twice.

Look up “Direct Menu Operation” (page 20 on my manual). If it’s set to “All” then you will get the dreaded “Cannot Proceed” message.

Jeez Steve, I’ve read it 20 times and it’s still confusing! Who writes these things – the Z1 was not an easy read either.

Well, the company is based in Japan and the manual might be written there and converted. It does seem like some very necessary things have been left out. The menus are vague on some points.
