Hi Gary

Thanks for wandering into my nightmare. I’m actually working on a Final Cut system serviced by people who only know Avids. It’s a long format piece that was started by another team (in all likelihood using FireWire but we’re not allowed to ask). My tech support is determined to come in through SDI, have never seen a Blackmagic card, but are coming along slowly. So I’m a mechanic repairing a car as it speeds down the highway.

It was guessing on my part since there is no mention of the workflow in any posts- but if the original project was done on an avid- it may have been up-converted the footage on capture and created this nightmare. it would not be the first time I have seen this happen.

this does not appear to be the case here, so bring me up to speed on systems etc. and I am sure between jeremy , walter and I something will happen. The card is not set up correctly – the Fcp easy setup should reset the BMD cards also.

what do they say in the BMD forum?

Just a thought, does your viewing monitor have overscan? With all the people accessing the system someone may have reverted the monitor to their own user set-up. BVM’s have memory cards for different users so they can quickly restore their favorite set-ups for different scenarios. NORM is usually 5% overscan and Underscan is usually 3% under effective screen area but this is user configurable to + or – 15% in the menu for both settings. This could also explain the washed out picture.

No, this could be seen on the canvas and browser. I went so far as to capture a clip once using SDI and once using FireWire to illustrate the phenomenon. It was pronounced.
