Set import pixel ratio for stills in Vegas 7
Posted by Alan Lacey on March 31, 2007 at 6:02 pmVegas manages to interpret the parameters for rendered animation bitmap sequences but when I import individual frames (there are a lot of these) it always sets for square pixel.
Changing these values manually (it only allows you to do this one at a time) is a real pain.
Is there a way of specifying the par for imported stills? I can’t see one anywhere?
Thanks for help.

March 31, 2007 at 7:01 pmHow do you inport image sequences?
The way I do:
-File/import media
-look for the image with the first frame (eg. img0001.tif)
-select it, when selected there’s a checkbox below: “open still image seqence”
check this, whne necessary set the range, but this always defaults for me correct
-open
-I choose the alpha (straight-unmatted: images from PI seem to have such alpha channel, that depends on your source)
Also, here you can change the pixel aspect ratio, I usually don’ care for this,
but:
After I got it in the media pool, drag to timeline;
then in the event pan/crop I set maintain aspect ratio to “NO” and stretch to “YES”.So the image completely fills my projects frame.
Was this helpful to you?
I hope… 😉

April 1, 2007 at 7:31 pmThanks guys for your interest,
Lazlo that’s the way I do it with bitmap sequences, it’s when I import individual frames from these sequences for subsequent compositing, that the par is not set correctly.
jeditdv, the only little disk icon I can see on the properties dialogue of one of the bitmaps is one next to the ‘Stream’, is that the one you mean?
Also can one of you tell me why Vegas insists that par for D1 is 1.0926, when everywhere else it’s 1.0666666
Thank you again,
Alan

So you can save the video profile.
I never used that so far.I still have to learn vegas 🙂

April 3, 2007 at 9:11 amI suppose so but it doesn’t seem to want to work for still formats.
Whats the ‘stream’ thing? I can’t see anything in the helpfile about that?

April 3, 2007 at 4:30 pmThanks Ed but it still doesn’t work for me with these (1.093 par) jpg stills.
Can you confirm that V7 does do this on your setup?
Many thanks Alan

Yes, it worked for me also, once I’d closed and opened Vegas again.
