My Dongle suddenly stopped working, and now I have to cancel clients for the next two days.
I rebooted, the dongle shows up in the System Profiler, so it seems ok but DaVinci refuses to load.

    Alright, these things can happen.

The issue is that, Blackmagic is charging $100 for the broken dongle, AND they’re charging me for shipping.

So not only do I lose today and tomorrow’s clients, but I get to pay for it too.

    THANKS.

Seriously, What the hell is this kind of policy?

Resolve was $250K a year ago now it’s $995.00…. Other grading systems have service contracts which are $25K /year. I know it’s a bummer but $100.00 is not too bad IMO can’t they overnight it 10AM Fedex?

Note, I’d understand a CC “Hold” for the full purchase price until you RMA’d the dongle to prevent fraud, but that I’d have to shell out $100$ for a 4$ USB stick is ridiculous.

    I take everything back.

That’s $100 replacement is for a Dongle that’s been physically damaged, which seems fair. I’m sorry I ever besmirched BMD. I was just shocked because I was so used to stellar service from them

KInd of a similar sitch when COLOR was SiliconColor Final Touch and it was dongle controlled. Lots of broken sticks so they really advised that it should be installed well out of harm’s way. Not in the keyboard, not in the front of the MacPro or PowerMac in those days.

Nothing like bringing up final touch to make you remember how good we actually have it now.
