  • Sequence won’t render – General error

Posted by Scott Grubisich on March 15, 2011 at 4:39 am

I have been working on a DV/NTSC project for several months. No problem until today. After returning home, I noticed a “General Error” message, and clips in new sequences won’t render.

The new clips that won’t render have several filters (chromakey, spill suppresssor, color corrector, eight point garbage matte). Simple edits such as transitions do render in the sequence, but the clips with chromakey related filters won’t render. Strange thing is, they did render in the sequence last night . . .

I have trashed preference files and rebooted, and deleted and rebuilt the sequence with the chromakey filters, but the clips still wont render. I have tried every possible render option. The clips will play in viewer and Quicktime and do not appear corrupted.

    System info:

    Final Cut Express 3.5.1
    OSX 10.5.8
iMac 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB RAM – all files on hard drive in Documents/Final Cut Express Documents
    103 GB free disk space

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Update-

Soon after posting I discovered that the problem was the .mov file under the chromakey – FCE won’t render the .mov (though I am not sure why, as it is the same frame rate as the sequence). Haven’t tried yet but I suspect if I rip the .mov clips to DV all will be well . . . sorry for the premature post.
