  • Sequence Preset for HD stills for 4:3 delivery and rendering issue

    Hey All,
This is my first post, so forgive me if I leave out any standard items. I’m starting a project that is using all stills most of which are shot on a Canon 5D. I will be delivering final edit as an MPEG-4 file for playback on a high-def 4:3 computer monitor (1600 x 1200) and also a smaller MPEG-4 for Podcasting.

My problem is that I can’t seem to find or create (custom) a reasonable setup that allows me to edit without having to render each time I place anything into the timeline. Please tell me that there is a work-around this issue. I know that FCP hates stills, but I must be missing something here.

Thank You in advance for the feedback!

    6 GB Ram

I’m pretty sure you will have to render any stills you put in.. at least that’s what I found out friday after trying all kinds of codecs. mine were jpegs you might have better luck with TIFF or another format. on the positive side the renders didn’t take long at all.

Well, actually the playback device will be a computer (PC I believe). I’m only delivering a file on DVD, not burning it for DVD playback.

Oh, I have their requirements in detail. It’s just that I can’t put stills into my timeline without having to render them each time. That’s the real issue for me. It’s dramatically slowing down my workflow if I have to render for every move I make. Is there some way for me to set up my project so that I’m working “offline” in a cruddy resolution that doesn’t have to render out the stills each time, and then do an internal “conform” by switching my settings once I have a locked picture and just render the whole thing?

    Thanks!

Are you working in 10 bit or 8 bit? Working in 8 instead of 10 might turn a red render bar into a green one for real time playback.

I’m working in 8 Bit. I’ve found that while I still get the red render bar for everything, Pro Res 422 is a pretty speedy option when it comes to render times.
