I have HDV footage from Sony HDR-FX1 and HDR-FX7 cameras and have decided to use the Apple ProRes 422.
I will capture using firewire and using the capture preset HDV-Apple ProRes 422
In the Sequence preset what is the proper setting???
    Apple ProRes 422 1920 x 1080 60i 48Khz OR??
    Apple ProRes 422 1440 x 1080 60i 48Khz
Again my question is 1920 or 1440 ??
My finished product will be a standard definition double layer DVD.
I am really new to all this and need to get this project correct so any help is very appreciated!!

I have a HDR-FX7, although FCP7 recognizes it flawlessly, when it comes to capturing HDV 1080i footage, it does capture it just fine but I find I have to set the sequence as follows:

To set the sequence preset, go to Final Cut Pro->Audio/Video settings and click on the Sequence Presets tab, you will see a list.

Select Apple ProRes 442 1920×1080 60i 48kHz and then click on Edit… (not Ok yet!), if it asks you to make a duplicate of that setting, say Yes. I name it “SONY HDR-FX7 HDV 1080i Prores Editing”, but however you name or do it, you need to set the Frame Size to 1920×1080 as shown above.

I didn’t down scale it to SD for DVD, so I’m not sure how that will work out. I needed full HD, but for that situation, I think from this point on you can follow steps to go from HD to SD.

The only two issues is that:

    1. Once you drag a captured clip into the sequence, you need to answer NO when it asks to set the sequence settings to match the clip.

    2. You may need to render clips (Command + R) when editing, a pain.
