Separating Colors of a Painting
Help! I am an animation student working on my second film. I will be making paintings talk. The colors of the paintings need to be separated and put on different layers before they can be animated in After Effects. I am selecting and deleting what I do not want color by color. Is there a better way? This does not seem the road to travel. I do not want an RGB color separation. Any suggestions or tutorials available?

I think you’re in for a rough road ahead my friend. The only technique I can recommend is similar to what you’re already doing.
Use Select>Color Range… and then apply layer masks to reveal the selections.

Oh, alternatively:
You could use the Leave Color effect in After Effects, or any number of the keying effects. These would be more automated, but give you less flexibility in terms of tweaking.

Thanks. And I realize that I am in for some work/late nights. A combination of Photoshop and AE is the order of the day. It is great film though and worth the effort.
