Sennheiser MHK 416 P48 pin (?) fell out
I have a Sennheiser MHK 416 P48 mic. After shooting last night, when I went to take off the dead cat, the entire black casing came off with it. It seems a pin or a screw fell out (see picture). I am not even sure what this was: a pin or a screw. And I notice that there are 2 holes on the inside gold part of the mic but on the outside casing there is only one hole leading me to think one placing is different than the other. Can anyone help me identify what this hole was for and what I can do to fix it? And are there 2 settings or doesn’t it matter? Thanks. Please understand I live in the middle of the Pacific and my hardware choices are at a minimum.

Well, I learned a couple of things today. First, the thing that fell out of the mic is called a threaded pin or grub screw, you can get it here (I have attached a picture as to what it looks like):
The second thing I learned was to pause and think, like, when was the first time the mic casing popped off? I retraced my steps in my mind and then remembered I had carefully put the camera w/mic on the backseat of my car when going from one place to another to shoot… So, I went out, looked in the back seat, and there the little bugger was. Oh what a great day this is….!!!!

Congratulations on a successful recovery. That is quite an unusual screw and you probably wouldn’t find it anywhere on the planet except from Sennheiser. I would be tempted to put a bit of thread-lock before screwing it back in. Or you could cover the head with a bit of gaff tape just so you don’t loose it somewhere out in the field.
