A battery leaked inside the cases. I took them out and scraped off some of the white residue. They work but I want to get them completely clean. Is it ok to peal out the strip in there that shows the + – signs for the batteries? Is there a preferred method to clean out the white residue. It should be a base for AA batteries. Would a q-tip damp with vinegar do the trick?

An old toothbrush with a lite paste made from baking soda & water will do the cleaning & neutrilizing for you. Dry brush all the white residue out of the battery compartment then scrub with the baking soda mixture, wipe clean and let air dry.
