  • sending clips from FCP to Motion for Optical Flow without wasting my life…

Posted by Roberto Serrini on August 22, 2008 at 3:41 pm

I have scoured, yes SCOURED, the intertubes for this one and I got nothing. A lot of the posts were quite dated, so I’m seeing if anyone had any headway with this one.

I have edited a sequence using multiple clips, as you do when you edit. Many of these clips have time-warps and are using the crappy “duplicate field” method.

I WANT TO SEND JUST THESE CLIPS TO MOTION, AND HAVE MOTION ANALYZE JUST THE PIECES I NEED FOR OPTICAL FLOW.

Not analyze the entire 28 minute master clip when Im only using 2 seconds of it.

DOES ANYONE, A-N-Y-O-N-E, HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TO DO THIS?

    Thanks, and Godsspeed!

the topic is actually covered often around here, surprised you didn’t find an answer that you found helpful.
You must separate the piece of the clip that you want to analyze because the default is to process the entire media file. I set in and out points and export to create a new media file using the same clip settings.
If at all possible, recapture the just portion of the clip you want to process.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I do. And if you would read your manuals, you would too.

Sorry, but that’s the way it works. If you need to analyze less, you have to give it less. There have been volumes written on this forum about the wondrous beauties of logging your tapes in usable chunks. This is yet another reason. It might also be possible for you to, maybe, export a section. Your FCP manual tells you how to do this, so I won’t bother.
