Self writing text with overlapping letters
hey guys, I’m new to after effects and I’ve tried to find a solution online without much luck, not having much luck with the search here either.
I’m trying to do self writing text, but the font I have is floaty and overlaps on itself. I’ve tried drawing out a path and stroking it out, but when I get to an intersection I get a bit jutting out. Ideally I want to know if I can set a variable path width overtime to get around this (make the path as wide as the line of text at the intersection), but don’t know how to do it in CS6

I would just do each letter instead of trying to do the reveal on one layer. You’ll get a much better result without worrying about the overlap. There are scripts to separate out letters in a text layer like “Decompose Text” or you could just convert the text layer to Shapes (preserves compound shapes better than “convert to masks”)
